Branch News
This autumn the branch has welcomed excellent speakers raising members awareness of life in Malawi and giving a thought provoking alternative view of halloween.
Hilary Hegarty explained the work of CART the charity St Thomas' supports with our harvest festival gifts. Hilary has visited Malawi on behalf of CART as the transport arrived with the very welcome and neccesary gifts. Hearing about their life and needs made harvest this year more meaningful.
Wakefield Diocese Mothers' Union is linked with Soroti Diocese Mothers' Union in Uganda and in October the Bishop George of Soroti and his wife Florence were our guests for an afternoon during their visit to England. It was lovely to meet and talk with them and to hear about the work of Mothers' Union in Soroti. Members there are very involved in community work in prisons and helping women learn skills to support the family income, they are very grateful for our support and prayers. Again hearing first hand about their life and challenges made us realise how fortunate we are here in the UK.
Amidst the promotion of a commercial Halloween with skeletons, masks, orange balloons and pumpkins everywhere you looked Terry spoke of the real meaning of All Hallows Eve, of its origins and of the dangers that can come from the wrong type of celebration. Its our AGM in November and we look forward to a joint celebration evening with ladies fellowship in December.
