August Barbecue

Gallery

Once more we decided to hold a barbecue in August and although there was a bit of a struggle, the weather held out. Sumptious Sausages and blooming marvellous burgers were the order of the day with a little spicy chilli con carni, salad and the ever important liquid refreshment. Just to round everything off we were treated to pud in the form of a rather splendid cake. Thanks to Chef Richard, Chilli Supremo Gill, Barman Geoff, Terry & Elaine for the use of their garden and to everyone who came and helped. Another good do!

Mexican Evening

Entering the hall we were greeted by a pseudo Mexican complete with revolver and droopy moustache, the latter affixed to the top lip by a mean looking piece sticky tape! (see first image on left above) The table was steadily being filled with all manner of Mexican food, even “Mexican” Shepherds Pie was on offer.

As usual we managed to “scoff” the food with great enthusiasm, not a difficult task as it was all delicious. It was then time to exercise the brain cells with a quiz based on….you guessed it…Mexico. Questions ranged from; ‘Mexico City is built on the ruins of the capital of which empire’ through to questions on the ‘the name of a professional Mexican boxer’, [was this a biased question giving advantage to the chaps? - oh yessmiley], and included one on ‘Why was the Mexican Miss World contestant Synthia de la Vega disqualified’. The answers for this ranged from a) Antagonising the judges, b) Having a sex change or d) Putting on weight. Almost all of us thought answer b was correct thinking we had heard this being reported in the media, so were surprised to hear that wasn’t the case….Mmm where were our minds! By the way there was no truth in the rumour spread by Lilian that the Mexican co-inventor of the contraceptive pill was E Wanto Nokido!!

This was another excellent evening, great conversation, good food and much hilarity thanks to El Taylor and crew who made such a sterling effort to give us a super evening.

Who won the prize, Godfrey and Tina........again:) "Arriba! Arriba! Andale! Andale! Andale!" Mexmouse

Blitz Bride - Still Life -Planet Rabbit Company

On Thursday 27th October the Parish Hall had a first, when the Planet Rabbit Company put on a production of “Blitz Bride” it may have been a cold wet October day in 2011 outside, but in the Hall we were whisked back to the forties and the War Years. On arrival we were given a cup of tea a scone and a very warm welcome. The play was set in Peggy’s front room where everything from the forthcoming wedding of the daughter of the house was arranged, to the birth of baby Dolly. We were treated to all the drama these events caused and much laughter as the play unfolded. The star of the show had to be Rover the family dog, who remained very calm throughout, even when he was pushed and pulled around on his wheels! The afternoon ended with a sing along everyone joining in with gusto and we even managed to keep in tune. All in all a great way to spend an afternoon, I for one look forward to the return of Planet Rabbit in December when they put on a production of Noel Cowards “Still Life”.

Carols with the Clifton & Lightcliffe Band

Once again we were treated to a great evening of entertainment and carol singing with the Clifton and Lightcliffe Band. The programme of music had been very well chosen, and the compare amused us with some very funny examples of 'Church Notices'. With refreshments of tea/coffee and mince pies in the interval and a lovely warm church, the evening was a great success.

Christingle

We had decided to have two Christingle Services this year to even out the numbers. That didn't happen we just had two full houses! How lovely the church looked as the Christingles were lit, all bathed in the rosy glow of our new heating system. What wonderful services they were. Look forward to seeing you at one next year.

Taste Sensations Evening - 3rd February 2012

A lovely evening was had by all. The food on these occassions just gets better and better and for us hungry souls, that is very good news! There is little to beat an evening of good food and a drink in the company of friends
